Madam Wang was born into a family of performing arts. Her father, “Xiang Kun” is a well-known movie actor and producer, who had collaborated with renowned Hong Kong director, “Li Han Xiang” as one of the pioneers between Hongkong and China in the film history, in works that were highly acclaimed internationally, such as:- “Huo Shao Yuan Ming Yuan”, “Chui Lian Ting Zheng”. Many of his movies won him global fame, which made him a well-known and distinguished artist in China and abroad in the 90s. In 2004, during the “100 Years China Movie Industry Anniversary and Outstanding Chinese Global Award Ceremony” organized by the Ministry of Culture, China, he was entitled and received the award as one of the 50 professionals who had made the most outstanding achievements and contributions to the China Movie Industry for the past 100 Years. Awardees such as Zhang Yi Mou; Jacky Chan and Gong Li etc.
Madam Wang had graduated from a well-known overseas university of arts, under the training of ballet and Chinese dance since she was age of six, she was greatly influenced by her father in the field of Arts. She had participated in cultural and art activities and dance education for the past 40 over years.
As an artistic director and a chief choreographer of BlueAce, Madam Wang had led our dance instructors and schools, such as Nanyang Girls High School; Yio Chu Kang Secondary School; Hwa Chong Institution; Catholic High School; Ai Tong School to participate in 10 rounds of the Singapore Youth Festival Dance Competition in which she had received more than 30 Gold and Silver awards. And our art work has been selected for more than 15 times by MOE CCA Branch to perform in SYF opening and finale concert since 1991.
Her original choreographed Modern Dance item, entitled “Seeking Concordance” performed by Catholic High School was awarded a Gold, the item has been selected for the "SYF 2007 Finale Concert - Dance Fantasia" as 1 of the 8 Gold items on Fri, 20th July at NUS University Cultural Center(UCC). It is also the first ever boy school, being awarded a gold in the history of SYF dance competition.
In February 1988, in response to the cordial invitation from the Tan Kah Kee family and the Lee Foundation(陈嘉庚家族及李氏基金), Madam Wang accompanied her father to come to Singapore for a visit. Her cultural and art career in Singapore began from that time to date.
During her stay, she was invited to be guest choreographer of the then National Theatre Chinese Dance Company (NTCDC). Choreographed and directed “Spring in Dong Zhai” and “Visit to the In-Laws”, which received rave reviews in Singapore and Malaysia, the box office was first ever 99% sold for the concert.
The following year, she was officially invited to be guest artistic Director of the NTCDC’s dance production “Dances of the Orient 91”. Totally 8 of her works in “Dances of the Orient 91” received much acclaim. Both nights performance received a 100% fully sold-out audiences.
During the initial period spent in Singapore, her incidental acquaintance with the “Cultural Award Winner” of Singapore, Mr. Tay Teow Kiat,(郑朝吉) who invited her to attend a performance of the Dunman High School’s Chinese Orchestra Club which was directed by Mr. Tay himself.
In 1991, under the immense support and recommendation from both Madam Wang and her father, the Beijing City Government sponsored an all-expense-paid trip for more than 120 Dunman High School’s Chinese Orchestra Club members from Singapore on the invitation to perform in Beijing , Shanghai and Xian for the first time. As both China and Singapore had not established intimate economic ties then, it was also the first occasion for a student-organization from Singapore to perform in the Beijing Musical Hall, the highest-ranking musical hall at that time in China. It was the first ever cultural exchange activity between Singapore and China in the history as well.
In the same year, by invitation of Singapore Ministry of Education Co-Curricular Activities Branch (MOE CCAB), organized a dance training camp for 68 primary and secondary schools’ dance teachers. She taught 6 dances in 5 days.
In 1992, she was employed as a full-time teacher at Nanyang Girls High School and she spearheaded the dance course, which has now become a compulsory extra-curricular activity for all Singapore secondary schools.
She was also invited and appointed by many schools; art groups and companies such as Ministry of Education (MOE); National Day Parade Committee as their artistic director and producer for over 30 large-scale productions in National Stadium; Kallang Theatre; Victoria and the Esplanade Theater etc.
She had also made BlueAce a qualified service provider for work shops;aesthetics enrichment programme and performance, such as AEP (Arts Education Programme) endorsed by National Arts Council and is eligible for 60% Tote Board Arts Grant Subsidy to all schools.
Her rich experiences and outstanding achievements had won her many praises from both the cultural and arts fraternity as well as the educational field. |
